Navioincs chart cartridge detail

Can anyone tell me if the XL3 vs. XL vs. small chart cartridge have the same detail when zooming in to a reef, harbor or nearshore feature? I can buy one cartridge to cover Lake Erie and Ontario or get 2 separate. It's not that I'm frugal, but I'm trying to be sensible when making this purchase. Any suggestions?

navionics says they have the same detail. the xl3 covers multiple charts but doesnt add more information.
