Default Marine Stereos - INFINITY PRV250

This is pretty neat. Does anyone have one? All the functions of a stereo without the waterproofing problem that CD players usually have. It can play bluetooth from your iphone too. Would love some feedback if anyone has it.

This looks it's offbrand counterpart

Arnie Nudell must be aghast at what has happened to his once-proud company.

I have one going in on Tuesday. If it works as advertised I'll be thrilled. If not I'll be asking Itteldoo what he'd get on a budget with Bluetooth ;-). Shoot me a pm next week if I forget to post about it. Of course the real test will be how it holds up to years of high temps, salt water, and lots of use.

WhalerMax, the stereo sounds great. I've got it paired up with a JBL MA6004 amp and two JL 7.7inch speakers. That said, I can't for the life of me get the thing to pair up with my phone. Out of 20 or so attempts, it only happened once and I didn't do anything differently that time. I've got a new droid with v4.0, perhaps my girlfriend's older iPhone will have better luck but I doubt it.

I've got calls in to tech support at Infinity and Prospec Electronics, so it'll be interesting to see how those turn out. For now however I'd hold off on it if I were you.

Itteldoo, I'll accept your "I told you so" now... and any suggestions for bluetooth pairing.

(Well... Maybe... Sometimes... I would. )

Forget Bluetooth. It inevitably does obscene things to the audio quality. If you don't want to take my word for it, see http://news.cnet.com/8301-13645_3-57...udio-vs-wires/.

As for a quality replacement for that re-badged Milennia P.O.C., try (in approximate order of preference):

This one seems to be a particularly good deal right now:

Prospec got back to me two days later and said to hold the mode button and the #1 preset button to reset the unit. Everything works great now. Instant Bluetooth pairing, great sound, easy operation etc. I'm pleased.

This is the real deal.... 100% water proof display and amp section.. It is military grade.
You also have 2 sets of rca outputs with 3 volt output..

Bluetooth audio has its applications. Critical listening with a high end system in a controlled listening environment is not one of them. A boat definitely is. A background stereo system in the kitchen is as well. First thing I do nearly every night when I get home is turn on music with my phone to play over my kitchen audio system. I also have an audiophile quality system (or two) that I enjoy immensely but not nearly as often. Likewise, one of the first things I do when I get to boat is to put tunes on through the phone as well. It is a perfect application and I'm addicted to the convenience and just fine with the trade off, especially with all the background noise that is typical in the marine environment (and I'm not even talking about the engines). Definitely get Bluetooth.

Joe that is crazy, They look like twins. I have to check into that. The Memphis unit is alot more money and when I saw it, it was very heavy duty stuff. My Memphis rep told me it was military grade and the one I saw was. It was very well built. I would find it hard to believe the milenna would be the same or similiar in performance but the look is scary identical.. I have to look into that.

That's because they are.

An exorbitantly high price tag is sometimes a deliberate marketing strategy, on the theory that gullible folks who really don't know what they're buying will make "perceived value" judgements based upon it.

In what way, exactly?

At least based on the above-cited product page, Memphis Car Audio makes NO claims whatsoever about it's construction quality or weather resistance, let alone a properly qualified IP rating http://www.engineeringtoolbox.com/ip...ion-d_452.html http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/IP_Code. Generic puffery such a "super rugged chassis" is meaningless.

Notably, they also offer absolutely NO meaningful performance specifications, either.

You really expected the truth from a sales rep?!?

and the one I saw was.
Really? Exactly which MIL-STD and/or MIL-PRF is it certified for?

Before you (or your "sales rep") start throwing around terms like that, you might want to familiarize your self with what they actually mean: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/United_...itary_Standard.

What's to look into? It is yet another rebranded Milennia P.O.C..

I saw the unit underwater. the display and amp section and it was playing. Call Memphis direct and ask them about the unit. First thing I see different is that memphis audio has 2 sets of 3 volt rca outputs while the millena only has one set. Monday I am going to call the tech department and talk to them about the piece and see what the deal is.
I have also held the unit and it makes other marine radio construction look like toys or at least most. It was an extremly rugid piece.
I have been dealing with Memphis for over 10 years, as well as the rep so I do have a good amout of trust in this company and person.
It could be that they are using the same chasis but the internal are different. In my 30 years of being in this industry ( Car audio and Performance ) I have seen and used alot of equipment and this is a really nice piece. If it is the exact same piece I will be suprised.

Good. The manual is available online from prospec electronics if you run into other issues.

I am looking for a radio for my Sea Pro 21CC because the family wants tunes on the boat. I DO NOT want to spend alot of money for my "fishing machine" to carry tunes but I do want to keep them happy. I saw the Infinity PRV250 at the local marine store and it looked like just the ticket as my wife and I both have iPhones and the Bluetooth capabilities are a must.
Bottom line is this unit good enough to use on the occassions that we are on a pleasure trip????
My boat is already equipped with Fusion 6.5 speakers from previous owner. It had a Sony stereo but the saltwater got to it as it was not rated for marine use.
