Question Lowrance HDS 7 gen 1?

A couple of questions.
What is a fair price for a used HDS7 Gen1 with insight US and transducer?

Or is Gen 1 technology to old and I should look for a Gen2?

Thanks for your input.

I just bought a HDS 7 in May of 2012 from BOE. Love it. Think I paid about $1000.

I have gen 1 and I have messed around with the new unit. The only difference is processor speed, internal memory and structure map. If you not getting structure scan I wouldn't gen 2. If you are and would like the structure maps go for it. Otherwise save your money and go with gen 1 because they are exactly the same.

I'd probably sell my Gen 1 for $700. I really want a touch, it is all I think about these days. It's flush mounted, but I think I have the gimbal. I've probably got 100 hours on it since new. It's great, just drool over that touch stuff. I'd have to figure out what I needed, but if I got the touch, I'd probably be able to let go of some of the add ons, like the Structure Scan processor. I'd probably keep the LSS transducer though... or maybe not, there's a $100 adapter required if I keep it.

Where are you from? (to see if leaving my numbers in it would upsell you at all)...
I'm out of SC, got lots of numbers.

Lowrance HDS-7 Gen2 Insight cost $850 at BOE, don't get a first generation unit unless you get it for $500 or less. The first generation units will get very limited software updates in the future, they will not support any smartphone or tablet integration either.

I didn't see that, dang good price there. Including structure scan, my price shouldn't be too bad then. Mine is an insight unit, 80/200. Make an offer.

Also, though I love Jim's input across the site and appreciate his pricing and customer service, the link you referenced is without a transducer, which is pretty fundamental in considering overall price. Gen 1 with transducer and structure scan... fair priced at $700 used.

I paid 400 shipped for a HDS7 great condition but no ducer. Transducer is cheap. I got a basic 83/200 for like 65 or something online. I bought from a great member on THT parts forum. keep an eye out be patient.

I consider $700 as a fair price for a used Gen2 unit, not first generation transducer or not included. The value of a used Lowrance 83/200kHz transducer is close to zero, if it's been in the water a couple of years it's not worth the work to install it due to the low reliability. The HDS-7 Gen2 with 83/200kHz cost only $44 more than the version without transducer. Expect for 30' and less I would anyway recommend a Airmar P66 (or one of the other mounting versions of the same 600W element) together with HDS. What the value of a LSS-1 box without transducer is, is difficult to say since the LSS-1 transducer is not available anymore, a complete LSS-2 (including transducer) costs $537.
