Default Fishfinder placement in regards to compass

Just recently purchased Raymarine DS500X fishfinder from BOE...The install instructions require the unit to be 3' from the magnetic compass.I am installing this on a Cape Horn 19...console space is limited. If installed closer than 3' which would be affected, the compass or the fishfinder??? Would I be better off installing an electronics box??? Any ideas would be appreciated.

The compass may be affected by the electronic unit. On most consoles, there is no way to leave that much room between devices. If your compass is affected, you can adjust all quality compasses. This is a typical situation.

Before you install; manually place the FF adjacent/around the compass...see if it affects the card.* I'll bet it doesn't.* Turn the FF on.* That 3' length seems to be a catch all distance, for all manufacturers...good luck!* Installing a VHF would be another thing, it has a magnet in the speaker.*

I own a 19' Cape Horn also. My fish finder is mounted on top of the console on the right hand side. I haven't noticed any interference with the compass.
