Humminbird Matrix Fishfinder PC Cable Hi Everyone,
I though I would post this since I ended up making this and found it difficult to find the info on the net. Total cost for cable fabrication was less than $5.00 which was the cost of the DB9 connector from Radio Shack. Much better than the $30.00 for the cable from Humminbird.
To connect your Humminbird Matrix series fishfinder to a PC just connect pins 2,5, and 6 to a serial port. It works with the downloadable Humminbird PC software.

If you have a Humminbird GPS pigtail the ground is the bare wire, serial(NMEA)in is the green wire, and serial(NMEA)out is the white wire. I made my own cable after purchasing my Matrix 37 and GPS unit and cutting the 'Y' cable that came with the GPS receiver. it works beautifully.
I used the 'Y' cable and cut off the NMEA com end to make my cable because I only have the GPS hooked up to my unit.
I used the end that I cut off of the 'Y' cable and hooked it up to a DB9 serial cable and added a 12 volt battery connection via a fused cigarette lighter plug to connect the Humminbird GPS receiver to my laptop. It works just as well on my laptop with mapping software as an older Magellan handheld GPS unit that I used to have.
I hope everyone finds this useful. |
