Default weather radar?

Does anyone know of any handheld or small mounted gps device that gets live weather radar in the bahamas that costs $1K or less. Everything I have seen is xm weather compatatable and it doesn't get "service" in bahamas and only works near u.s. shore and doesn't give detailed radar.. Just seems like there should be something out there that can do that and maybe I'm just not looking in the right place.

The SR100 satellite receiver I have connected to my E120 shows real-time satellite weather that includes the Bahamas. It is a VERY useful system and dead-on accurate,

As does xm weather. I've used my handheld in the Bahamas.

Or you couold do this much cheaper and you'd have a device you could move from your truck or from boat to boat.

Garmin GPSMap 640 $664.25

and then add a GXM 40 XM Weather Smart Antenna for $206.50

Here's some XM coverage of the Bahamas.

Yes there is a subscription charge. They charge different rates, depending upon the receiver, because of the different feature sets supported by the different devices.

The subscription rates are obscene!

I subscribed for a while and was calling them monthly looking for a break, to no avail.

When I called to cancel all of a sudden there were deals to be made. What a surprise.

It is worth the charge.

Here is an image showing some of the features available on my system.

Mine also has the satellite radio connected to my killer audio system.

Thanks again for all the info...
"bluewaterpirate" I didn't even consider xm because on their coverage map it didn't look like Bahamas wasn't covered...was that in Bimini or farther down into the islands?

--thanks for the images wingless

It seems like Sirius is better ...it seems to allow for more flexibility for seasonal use instead of yearly contracts

You are welcome!

The only complaint I have w/ Sirius is they require a tough conversation w/ the cancellation department to get decent pricing. They offer monthly rates, but the annual contract has a lower per-month charge.

Either pay lots of money, or have a one to two hour conversation w/ them each time the contract is up for renewal.

The service is great! I am very happy w/ the performance, utility and safety of this device. The satellite radio is very nice too.

I have used XM weather in the Bahamas. I have a Garmin 545 and their inexpensive antenna successfully. Who have you been talking to, and what are they trying to sell you?

Re: subscriptions. Why the heck would you think it should be free; because you can see it on TV at 6 and 10 PM? You're paying for it, my friends!
