Default Numerous Electrical Problems--Help

Ok Hull Truthers,

Had the boat out this weekend and SHI^, I've got electrical problems. Was listening to stereo (via splitter with vhf)and when I turned on my gps/fishfinder reception was seriously degraded. Radar shows no beam sweeps (ie. no reflections at all), one stereo speaker died, and fuel guage would occasionally swing/twitch from full to empty. None of these problems existed before. Now I'm thinking bad ground or possibly when I hooked everything back to the batteries after charging that I connected something wrong. Any thoughts--I'm electrically challenged.

you need to sit down and draw a wiring diagram based on the existing wiring. Then make sure that all feeds can support the current on that branch.

The major clue here is that you disconnected the batteries to recharge them.

I would guess that when you reconnected them you didn't clean the contacts on the batteries or the cables....take the cables off and see if the battery and cable connection are shiny clean. If not, depending on your connection type...get a battery terminal cleaner from an auto parts store...or a battery cleaning spray to clean off the gunk. (others may have better ideas). Then reconnect the batteries.

Then when you're all thru and have good tight/clean connections..spray the whole connection with corrosion block, T9 or your favorite corrosion protector.

I'de guess your battery. Take it to auto parts store and have a dynamic test.
