Hello;

What is the difference between a Marine battery, Automotive, Deep Cycle?

Why is it ill adised to use an Auto battery for Marine Service?

I've come to understand over the years that when buying a new battery to always select the one with highest CCA that will fit into the space.

All of the Marine Batteries I've looked at have considerably lower CCA then comparable Auto batteries.

Good info. I believe the main difference between auto & marine batteries is construction. Marine batteries are made to be more vibration proof.

I think most of the answers are solidly laid out in that link above. I'd like to add that saying a marine battery is more vibration proof than an automotive battery is a misconception.

Also,saying that an automotive battery is ill advised for marine use is also a misconception. Automotive batteries are typically cranking batteries and are not suited for deep discharges that a day on the water might require.
