Default Raymarine Fluxgate Compass ?

Just received the S1G 6001 pilot. First, how do I know whether I received the S1g or the S1? Second, should the inside of the fluxgate compass feel loose--as if something is unattached inside? Thanks--Birdman--are you listening?

On the compass you should see a P/N of E12115. If you see E12114 this is not the G verision.
What do you mean by loose? Do you hear anything rattling inside when you shake it?

jlr...what you 'feel' is a pendulum weight hitting a buffer inside the case.* This is normal.*

Thanks--I thought I may have received a broken unit. The outside of the box has the S1G model number E12120 but the inside fluxgate did not look any different than the normal one. I guess I'll have to check the serial number on the fluxgate itself just to be sure.

The compass is not where the "g" is, it is on the board for the course computer. The rate gyro is soldered to the board.

The compass is the same for both the g and non-g versions. You need to look at the control unit. It will tell you whether or not it is a g unit, but if the box is labelled that way, I wouldn't worry too much unless you got it from somewhere questionable.

Yep.* #1 the rattle is normal.* #2, the Fluxgate IS the same on both non G and G units.* The Gyro is on the Course computer PC board.*

Just installed the pilot yesterday. Have not yet bled the pump. What a pain--the new pilot came missing a few parts--most importantly, the actual tie rod knuckle joints to connect the rudder sensor to the rudder arm. Had to make my own from West marine parts. So much for a well packed Raymarine box. Sure hope the pilot works better than the packing job.

jlr,

Those do NOT come with the unit.* They have no idea what kind of setup you have (steering ram, motors, setup....).*
