Why the regret? All of the galvanize (thought they didn't rust) connectors, (consisting of the three T's and 3 elbows) are in dry compartments. However, do have a can of the 3M stuff handy!

I have a lot of respect for Thom's opinions, and I kinda agree with his post.
You had better darn well do the sealing job absolutely perfectly to do it right.
I'm not a metalurgist, but I'm under the impression galvanize is just a zinc coating over steel. Check with your steering manufacturer. I'm sure they will tell you the use of dissimilar metals is totally contraindicated.
Best of luck on the install.

I dont know if I agree with you here. When you order fittings from Seastar to add a second steering station or an AP the fittings and steering housings are dissimilar metals. The housing is aluminum and the fittings are both brass and brass plated. The old fittings I took out of my ten year old housing were plain brass and there was no galvanic reaction at all on the housing or fittings. The new fittings were crome plated brass from Seastar. I might be wrong but I thought that to get the kind of reaction you are talking about water must come onto play my helm and hopefully your helm is never under water. Unless it may be a ferrous metal non ferrous metal reaction Mark
