Default GPS w/not shoot thru. all windshields

We were using a Garmin 2610 running out of town from one of the hurricanes. The 2610 would not shoot thru the windshield but would work next to any other window in the van. If you look very good I could see a thin film in the windshield that it would not penetrate. FYI it is a Pontiac minivan.
So before you buy a gps for automobile use walk to your car and make sure it will work first before you have to throw it on the drivers door in a cup holder like I had to. Take care.
If anyone knows what that is in there let me know.

I've seen the same problem with the electronic smart tags that you can velcro in your windshield for toll booths. Some windshields won't let the signal pass & you have to affix one externally on your front license plate area.

Metallized windscreens will require external GPS antenna's.

Toyota has this film also. You can take the fixed antenna off of the 2610 and just plug an external into it.

It is on many cars to reduce deterioriation of the interior due to UV...the dash takes a big hit in southern climes...
