I have a GPS V that i keep in my car for street navigation and for the occassional Geocaching adventure.
I just realized that not only can it do street navigation, but it is compatible with BlueCharts. It says I need the CD (b/c the GPS V will not take a addin memory card). then I can upload the data the same way that I upload city (street) information.
long story short. anyone done this with the gps v?
suggestions?
i will want the information for the gulf -- tampa.
apparently its 75.00 a region.
I have the Garmin Street Pilot color in my car and I also have the Garmin GPSMAP 76s handheld. I kinda went the other way and loaded the MetroGuide USA in the 76s. Works great. Keep in mind you first buy the BlueChart CD for about $130.00 or so, this gives you one free area of your choice. Another area cost and additional $80.00 bucks or so from the same CD. Your allowed to load same info into ONLY two GPSs that are registered in your name. Cannot share with a buddy!
Boston Whaler, "MUMBLER", 24' Outrage, twin 175 HP Evinrude Ocean Pros. Snowball, the cat...
well i went to that URL above and ordered the cd (new version 5.0). it'll be 75.00 for the first unlock. b/c i am ordering it straight from garmin. i went to several different places online and saw that everyone was offering the same crap for 99.00. hrmm. profit.
I have a GPS 5 and use it with Blue Charts. It works great. Be sure to set it up for "Water" mode during ocean navigation. This makes the ocean lighter in gray scale color and makes reading the depths and bouys easier to see.
The price on Version 5.0 for 75.00 is for the update CD from Garmin. It's suppose to only work if you have a previous version installed. Just updated mine from ver. 4.0 to 5.0. Hopefully it will work for you, but I'm not sure. One other thing, It will ask you to verify the software on your GPS and update it if necessary. Back up any waypoints or routes that you have on the GPS prior to doing this, because it will erase the data stored on the GPS.
