Default AP11 autopilot problem

I have the AP11 on my 31 Contender. The rudder indicator bars are all the way over (hard starboard) when my outboards pointed straight ahead. I have reset 0 rudder angle per the manual and the guage will show the rudder amidship. BUT, as soon as I put the unit back in normal operation, the rudder angle once agains shows the rudder all the way to starboard.

Any idears?

How old is the unit? If you have the older version of the LF3000 linear feedback sensor (the black tube on your bracket), they are prone to fail. What you described is what they do when the go bad -- I know from first hand experience with two of them. The new version of the sensor hasn;t given me a problem.

I would almost guarantee that your LF 3000 feedback has gone bad. Disconnect it from the motor & manually move it in & out. If the rudder bars jump or dont move, its bad. The good news is that the linear feedback interface box (a 4 x 4 x 4" black cube that looks just like your compass) is probably still good & the feedback isn't too expensive.
