Default Minn Kota Co Pilot problem

I doubt there is anything anyone can suggest but here goes. I have a Minn Kota Sp 74 with a copilot control. I plugged it in and the shaft started rotating conterclockwise and would not respond to the wrist control or the foot directional control. I could only stop it by unplugging from the 24V sourse. It worked fine a few days ago and nothing has changed in the battery setup. Propeller control works fine. I suspect an issue with the control board and will take it to a repair faculity Monday. Anyone got any better ideas? I know it is not in the wrist control because I pulled the battery out of the wrist control and plugged the motor in and same problem.

Try unplugging the foot control.

I had one a few years ago that did the same thing.

Foot control was never plugged in. I have one and tried it to see if it would work and same thing. Even with no wrist control or foot activated shaff still turns on its own whenever 24V power is connected.

Yep, probably control board. Motor steering. Had one of those go out in my older co-pilot controlled powerdrive. Exactly as described. A relay latched or something down inside the epoxy.

Just replaced the power-board on my new Riptide also. No power up. They added a new "automatic power down" circuit for when the unit is stowed. Unfortunately, it wouldn't power back up. And , no, it was not the magnetic reed switch. By-passed that straight away. Good thing these babies come with a 3 year warranty that's extend-able by two more years.

Had the same problem after purchasing my copilot in 2009. Had it repaired under warranty in 2010. The Tech said "never saw that condition before". Now in 2012 failed again. Contacted Minn Kota with my sad story and their reply was sorry out of warranty see your service center. Contacted local service center who said "haven't seen that condition before". Nothing they can do. I was told to buy a new one. I hardly use this copilot since my son likes the foot pedal and he's my fishing buddy. I see a reliability issue with this product with no help from Minn Kota to resolve it. I would not purchase this unit knowing what I know now.
