Default Electronics Rigging Charges

I am buying a new Sea Hunt 232. I am getting a Furuno FCV600L and an ICOM M402 radio. The dealer has agreed to put my GPS on the boat. The GPS and the fish finder will be flush mounted and the radio will be in the electronics box. They are charging me 300 more for the furuno than I can buy it for and 200 extra for the radio they are rigging my GPS for 65.00. Their price includes installation. Does this sound like a lot for installation on the new items?

It does to me, but then I do my own work and it's more detailed than most shops would do for you.

I need to start doing this work more for others, as I enjoy it a lot. It's time consuming.

Those prices don't sound bad at all. You did say flush mounting didn't you? Also, it is dependent on what sort of transducer you are having installed. There is one major consideration, and that is access to pull wires in the boat. Your dealer should be very familiar with the models he sells and this shop guys should be VERY familiar with how easy or hard it is to install anything at all on each model. Some can be a real bear and in this case that means that you pay for a lot of aggrivation time as opposed to productive time.

I have to agree with Thom.* They could eat up hours installing this stuff.* At$65.00 per hour...I see a days work or $500.* Your in the ballpark on the package. Often a marina will sell at LIST and install free.* They have to make a buck.* I would also look at different installations they've made.* You want it done properly and to look right.* Sometime they just through the stuff on the quickest way.* Not good.*

My wife and I are actually looking into that possibility. I would love to be able to do this kind of stuff for a living. I've seen some of the work done by the "professionals" around here. Awful doesn't even begin to describe it!

I went back to my dealer and he actually asked me if I had checked the prices his distributor gave him on the electronics. I told him that I could get the sonar for 300.00 less and the radio for 200.00 less. He told me to buy them and bring them to them and they would rig them for 65.00 each. They are brands they don't normally sell and he was having to buy them through a middleman. I will take him the sonar but his price on the radio included the antenna and all the parts so I will get that from him. They do great rigging work I have seen many examples. Thanks for all the input.

$200 to install 3 pieces 2 flushmounted. Too good to be true. Just fuses, wire and connectors will cost $25. Spend more dough and get the 582. It is a way better unit. Spend another $100 and get a 502 and buy a didgital antenna.
