Default furuno navnet waypoints

I just took delivery of my boat with the Furuno 1943C radar/chartplotter 10.4inch LCD. I have not dove into the manual hardcore yet and was hoping to get some simple advice. I am trying to manually enter waypoints and the Lat line keeps defaulting to 28 degrees when I need a 27 degree waypoint. Oddly the longitude will save as normal. It is only the lat portion that is doing this. Anyone have an easy answer?? Thanks

How are you moving from the Lat line to the Lon line? I think you might inadvertently be cancelling your data entry. Use the trackball to advance the blinking cursor from one line to the next and then push the "save" soft key. That works for me.

If you have a lot to do, you might want to consider doing it on a PC and then uploading. There are variety of free and cheap software programs that can manage the process. My favorite is called "GPS Utility" and can be downloaded from here: http://www.gpsu.co.uk/

It is easy to fabricate a cable with a D serial connector if you already have a Furuno interface cable for Port 4, or you can buy one from Furuno ready-made.

If you do use the PC, always make sure that you download from the NavNet first, then modify the file with any changes or additions. A new upload erases all the waypoints and routes and replaces them.

Ditto on the PC entry of the waypoints. It is very easy to download waypoints and routes with a laptop using a GPSU software !! Mark

Mine defaults to my current position I think. Try unplugging the antenna temporarily and see if it defaults to the last entered waypoint.

As far as GPSU, I helped Alan murphy debug the Furuno Marks on GPSU. It works well and you can manage Waypoints and Marks.

Thanks all. I am using the trackball to move the cursor around. It just defaults to a 28 lat for some reason. I didnt try the software yet and it sounds like a good way to go. I was trying to clean up my waypoints and I guess I could just do w/ the software. I am just concerned that I cannot get this easy info entered into the system manually. For instance, if I'm in the bahamas and need to enter waypoints, I will be bummin' if I cant enter manually. I'm sure it's something easy that I'm missing but I dont think I am inadvertantly deleting the info because the longitude line stays at the correct entry.

I have another theory, but perhaps you should just try Furuno tech support. If you ask a question through the website, they respond quite promptly, usually within a day. Or you can just call on the phone. They are extremely helpful. I once spent two hours with one of their techies trying to figure out why the software updater would not run on my machine. He set up one just like mine and we walked through lots of trials before the guy who wrote the software got onthe phone with me and figured out that there was a program running in the background on my PC that was interfering. Great support, as you can see.

Good advice Saltdog. I called Furuno support and the system needs go through a setup that apparently my installer did not do. They said it will take about 20 minutes.
