Iphone/BB gateway project w/ pics

This is the slickest gadget to come along in a long time IMO. I f you own a smartphone of any type that has bluetooth capability/MP3/pandora, this solves a lot of the ipod/sirius connections to get tunes playing on your boat without wires. This works with any head unit that has an "aux in". Now as soon as you step on the boat - you turn on the gateway and you phone starts streaming tunes to the system , all the while staying in your pocket or on the dash avail to you for tune selection. No more stupid interfaces that you have to scroll or reach forward for, you have that in your phone and it's mobile wireless remote for your tunes. I use an iphone. No power supply needed as iphone runs 15 hours so I cahrge it at night. Oh yeah, this solution was about 50 bucks for the ram mount and the gateway off ebay. No $299 interface boxes, $90 for cables, etc. Here's the original write up on the gateway:

I remounted the gateway to the back of the acrylic right behind the mount for great reception. Here is the mount. Another thing. we talk about starboard vs acrylic for dash applications - the mount went on with 3M dual lock which sticks perfectly to acrylic but would not stick to starboard.

Neat. Not at all famliar w/ teh gateways, so excuse me if these are dumb questons.

Can the gateway be plugged ino your amp and byapss the head unit?

Can the gateway be wired directly for power?

yes to both /power is simple - gateway powered by blackberry car charger to female cigar lighter receptacle wired to bus...

I believe any phone that does ad2p streams to all different stuff, assuming whatever's on the other end can read it.

Thanks Glen. I just ordered one. I also had to buy that horribly expensive car charger ($2.50 shipped) LOL.

I'll post up after I get hooked up. I can now dump Sirius Music. That will save some bigger $$$.

Great find Glen and thanks for reporting about it...got a question about it for you..

I'm guessing since you mounted the gateway behind the the dash there is never a need for accessing the button on the gateway? (it's site states it as being a kind of awaken/sleep button)

I have no button on mine - at least none that I know of - it fires up as I wired it into the switch that turns on my NEMA 2000 backbone for my network and GPS fan..

On amazon it states under technical details as:
"Tap a finger on its touch-sensitive surface to bring it to life or put it to sleep"

But if your using it without ever having to do so then thats perfect as the ideal mounting choice seems to be what you have done! (and what i will copy!! )

you are right - I do seem to remember the "bubble" in the logo on the top surface - all I know iu when you apply power, it wakes up and stays on...

The other thing that's neat is the geeks on a few Honda car forums where I found this have done the tests of wireless aux in vs cable aux in and nothing worth noting is lost using wireless. That proves out to my ears also.......At 30 bucks for this device it changes everything....
