Default What is the best Chartplotter under $1000

I don't mean to start a bunch of arguments or anything, I just thought it would be good to hear everyone's opinion since I am looking.
Thanks,
Rick

In my opinion the Garmin 282 is a terrific machine for under $1000.00. Do your home work and you can get it with a Blue chart Chip for that money.Unit is easy to use, has a huge screen, and affords the user speed and accuracy. There is a ton of screen selectivity available. I have really enjoyed mine, assuming color is not a prerequisite.

My choice is Garmin GPSMap 232 with BlueChip.

In my opinion, the Standard Horizon 170 at $996 is the best thing out there.

I'm very satisfied with the Garmin 182 grey w/bluechart. A friend has the 2006, if I had it to do over again, and had the room to mount it, thats the one!!

I have the Raytheon 425. It has been a great unit for me. It does take Navonics charts which are pretty good, It will also take the fishing hot spot maps as well. You might want to look at it.

I also have the 182 grey, but wish I'd sprung for the color. I find the grey hard to read. The unit has very quick screen performance and fits the space I could spare.

That said, the 182c with Bluechart chip should be right @ $1,000, which you should factor into your $1,000

You might also want to add $25 for the antenna mount!

I like the combination units - and bought the Garmin 188 with blue chart. It may be over 1,000 but prices are coming down. Check consumer marine. Good luck.

I just bought and installed today a Garmin 182 w/Bluechart. Installation was easy, and I am using the transducer as a shoot thru mounted in the bilge, even thought it came as a transom mount. I have just only momnetarily played with it, but when I powered it up, it snagged the satellites very quickly and is easy to manipulate. I will play with it a week or so and then post my thoughts in a seperate thread, but so far I am very impressed! Pricing? You can't go wrong with www.gpsdiscount.com. I got the above unit (not color) for 907 including the Bluechart and shipping That makes me and wifey very happy
