For my money, with the possible exception of the new Simrad product that I have not seen yet, the Furuno 1650/1850 are the best color combo units on the market.
I have a 1650DF, which is the chartplotter/fishfinder version of your unit. I have been very pleased with the chartplotter section. Very easy to operate, has alphanumeric keypad which makes it a lot easier and faster to enter and edit waypoints. Minuses: screen fairly small, especially in splitscreen plotter/ff mode, not as much of a problem with 1650D. Resolution is not very good, much prefer the screen on my Raytheon RL74CRC. Overall very fine unit.
I have the 1850d and love the unit. I have a separate Lowrance x15mt fishfinder. I had the unit sent out to Manmacine to have the screen enhanced for sunlight read ability and to be able to see with polarized sunglasses on, what a difference. Color is nice and bright and the unit is very easy to use, and fast.
Have the 1850DGPS as well-Only complaints are that you have to be directly in front of when sunny(LCD issue) and water temp doesn't show up on sounder screen in #, only in plotter mode. Came in the fog last weekend & got me in the inlet with no problems. Quick to redraw plott when shifting ranges, and easy to use when figure out what you like.
I have just gotten (At a EXTREMELY Reasonable price) a Furuno 1850. (it is a 2 year old unit)
I was wondering where Manmachine is located to see how much a Screen update would cost..
it is not the C-map unit which is why the person sold it. SO I will be using both C-map (for my Standard 170) and Navionics (for the 1850).
This finishes equipping my boat for the rest of THIS lifecycle.
(I am sure glad I am divorced. If I was not, I would be after this one. )
Irish, Manmachine is located I think near Rockville Md. but I am not sure. The people I bought my unit from sent it out for me. I know they have a website.
Thanks Stretch.
I appreciate that. I will be dropping the unit off there before I do the Install.
Gee. Electronics Finished. Totally, completely Finished? Time to sell the boat.
I have an 1850DF, and I'm happy with the unit but can't figure out how to display Nav data and Depth. I can show a plot window and depth, but can't show BTW-CTW-Compass data and Depth.
