Default Will Raytheon Transducer Work With Garmin

I have a Raytheon L365 Fishfinder that has a transom mount dual 200/50 khz transducer with temp. and speed. I am thinking of replacing it with a Garmin 250 and I would like to know if I could use the existing transducer with a patch cord or a new plug with the Garmin. I'm just trying to save the labor of replacing the transducer and wiring if that transducer would work with the Garmin. Thanks.
Dwight.

Call Gem Elecronics (I don't have # handy but I'm sure somebody will post it), they will tell you if if will work, and if it will, they can make you the adapter.

NOPE. A RAYMARINE TRANSDUCER IS ONLY COMPATIBLE WITH RAYMARINE UNITS. AND THAT GOES FOR ALL TRANSDUCERS. ITS MADE FOR ONE MANUFACTURER AND THATS IT.

My RayMarine transducer is a standard Airmar product that came in the Airmar box with their serial number on it. If you can get compatible wiring it should work fine with whatever.

You can find wiring diagrams for the raymarine and garmin transducers at www.airmar.com. Airmar makes almost all the transducers sold by anyone...for the most part, the only difference is the wiring at the plug....and yes, you can splice transducer cables if it comes to that. I'm sure GEM or airmar has or will build you an adapter.

I just put a new Furuno 600L in my boat and it had a existing Garmin transducer plug. I called Airmar and they sent me a plug for the Furuno and I spliced the new wires(color code was the same) and it works perfect. All Airmars transducers use the same color code according to them, so all you need is the correct plug and go to soldering.

Wrongo. The ducers are the same in most cases, it's just a matter of mathing up the right wires.

I didnt get time to call Gems yet, but I did download the wiring diagram for both transducers from the Airmar site. If they tell me that the transducers are compatible, all I'll need is a new plug. The wiring diagrams show the pinouts for the plugs. The only difference is that the Raython uses a separate wire for the thermister common and the Garmin uses the shield as the thermister common. I'll check with them, but I can probably wire the thermister common and the shield to the same pin and it will then be wired the same as the Garmin transducer. Thanks for all the info.
