Lucky 27- Welcome to THT!

I like the SIMRAD units for a lot of their features inluding their craftmanship. They can be pricey. That being said, there are a number of members on this site that own/use SIMRAD units of all flavors. Try the search feature to do some reading while some of them reply. Here's a previous thread to get you started:

I have the CE42, with the latest version of the software, version 4.35. It is a really nice unit. I'm on my second season with it. It takes a little bit to get used to navigating the functions, but once you get used to it, its really easy to operate. Its very flexible in term of how your display is set up, and has tons of nice features. Very solid commercial grade construction. My only complaint is that its a bit slow on the redraws, but I'm used to it, so it doesn't really bother me. I also have the Simrad Combi transducer in 38/200hz, and the sonar works great. I get bottom and mark fish all all speeds. I'd buy it again.

I have been using a CE42 for a while now and the unit has been great, to speed up the redraw you can turn off chart features that are not needed. The redraw is much faster and not an issue when this is done. I am using a M260 50/200 ducer and it works great.

I have the CE 33.

What I like:

Everything that has been mentioned already.

Great craftsmanship.
Very powerful machine.
Can see the new screens in the sunlight.
The ability to vary the output performance of the FF side. ie 1000W 600w 100w 10w
makes shallow water performance great.
The 34 44 and 52 very customizable. If there is something that you want and you
cant get it on the screen then you don't need it.

Dislikes:

Price
Stupid WAAS antenna
Not very user friendly but the tradeoff is a powerful, customizable machine.
Wish my 33 had the customizable features of the 34.

I think you would be happy with the unit but then again it is just an opinion. And if you are just
looking at the CE 42 and not the CA your split screen will be plenty big and functional.
