Default X-85 Trade

I have been having some minor problems with my x-85 on the last two trips. Out of no where it started flashing and going blank with no apparent reason as to why and when. It did it at rest and running down the lake. The screen would go blank but never turn completely off. I checked the connections on the back of the unit to make sure nothing was loose. Anyway, had a new transducer on hand and traded out thinking it might be the problem. Still did the same thing. It might go 2-3 hours and no problems and then start flashing. Called Lowrance and worked out a possible trade(plus cash) for the X-91. Has any of you used both? Is the 91 as good or better than the 85. If not I might just send in for the $99.95 flat rate repair. Sure would appreciate your help. Need to make this decision soon.
Thanks,
C.T.

Although I have never used a Lowrance it has been my experience on this board that people have been having trouble with thier product. It's just an observation that I;ve made.

Had an X-85 for three years, work 100% of the time. Never convinced I saw fish on it however

Looked at the X-91 when outfitting the new boat but went with a color unit instead (not Lowrance). If I had picked another B/W LCD I would have gotten the Garmin 240 Blue.

I vote repair.

I have a Lowrance X-85 on my boat. Never had a problem with it and it has exceeded expectations (read bottom on >1200' in the Bahamas). It replaced a Lowrance X-3 that was on the boat when I bought it in 1987. That unit was working perfectly when it was replaced with the X-85.

P.S Capt Alex. I have heard many more horror stories about Hummingbird electronics than I have about Lowrance. How does your 3-D unit work?

CT,

I noticed that the X-85 I had used to start acting up when it got hot from direct sun light hitting it.
