Default Garmin 162 and Tides

Just installed device and upgraded software with tide data. I still am unable to get any tide data to display. Unit just sits searching for station.

Begin to suspect one needs to purchase an expensive CD to get this enabled. As a Keys fisherman who does not travel this seems a bit silly. Anyway around this problem?

When I had the 162 the tides worked fine.
Might call garmin.
They are very helpful.
Just have to wait on hold 5-10 minutes

When you upgrade the operating system, it erases anything in the memory. You must go to the garmin website and download the tidal information.

We'll make this easy for you. Go to this URL first and when you get there click on the agree button:

http://www.garmin.com/products/gpsmap162/agree.html

That will get you into the 162 software page and one of the first things you'll notice is on the right side where it tells you:

Beginning with software version 3.03, tide station data is stored in the same area as MapSource Maps. If you update your software from version 2.61 or earlier, you may lose all tide stations. If this happens, and if you would like to use the tide prediction feature of your GPSMAP 162/168 Sounder, please download and install one of the following:

Recommended MapSource U.S. Tides Software:
If you do not own a MapSource product which contains tides, but you do own another MapSource product, you can download and install the free MapSource U.S. Tides software below. You must already own a MapSource product for this download to work. You can combine tide stations coverage from the Tides product with maps from other MapSource products and upload this to your unit.

Download (4.89 KB) β€” MapSource U.S. Tides

Restoring Factory Tide Settings:
If MapSource data that does not contain tide points (e.g., U.S. Topo) was already loaded into your unit before you downloaded new unit software 3.03 or above, and you simply want to restore your pre-existing tide data, please download this file below. This will replace the MapSource maps with tide data.

Download (1.28 KB) β€” Preloaded Tides

Hope this helps.

I just did the upgrade to mine about 3 weeks ago and had not done it for over a year. It changed a lot of things. In fact it took me a while to figure it out and still don't have a handle on it. It seems like the tides worked differently as to change the station I had to hit the menu while on the tides page or something like that to get the right commands to come up. I never seen these commands b4 but they will direct you do about 4 differet way to pick a spot. I also can't point to a waypoint on the map with the cursuer and make it go to it like it did b4. I think I just need some time to mess with it but every time I get on the boat it seems like I am too busy to play with it.

I figured out the map waypoitn thing. If I use my curser to point to a waypoint I have to hit nav button instead of the enter button. B4 I just hit the enter button when the curser was on the way point. Probally pleanty of other thing that change I just havent found them yet.
