Default Garmin Data Card Reader STILL not working

OK guys and gals, what am I doing wrong? I am on a 32 Bit machine, I downloaded HomePort, I installed the drivers included on the DVD that came with the Data Card Reader, follow the instructions, computer's device manager shows "Garmin USB Device" in the drop down menu, but STILL I can't get this thing to show my map data on HomePort.

Any help out there? Why in the name of God are these things not Plug-n-Play?? I thought Garmin was one of the best??

Thanks,

John

Don't have the reader anymore but recall the same problem. Went to Garmins site and downloaded the driver and it worked. I hope it was the driver I downloaded and not an update for somthing else and am not steering you in the wrong direction.

When you say "Card Reader", are you saying you have a USB SD memory card reader?

If so, does it work in Windows? (go to Windoes Exporer, click on the E: or whatever drive letter it comes up as, and see if you can copy any file to it or from it). If you can't, then the problem is not related to Garmin or Homeport, it's your Windows/memopry card reader.

If you can see and use it in windows, then call Garmin tech support, I'm sure they can assist you.

If it's the garmin proprietary card and card reader I had major problems. I could not get the card reader to work on any of 6 different PCs until I finally tried in on a Dell laptop (D620). Worked fine all of a sudden. all the other PCs were intel chipset desktops (ASUS motherboards) and IBM thinkpads. Go figure.

John---shut down your cpu --plug in the card reader--garmin and turn it back on and let it install the drivers for it---if it can't ----download the drivers and install them

I believe HomePort will only read SD cards, not the older Garmin proprietary cards. I know it will not read maps and such from the PC's hard drive.

You might do better posting on the HomePort support forum:
