Default Outgrowing my GPSMap 215D, need gps/radar suggestions.

I'm finally tired of the refresh rate on my old Garmin. Otherwise the unit has been exceptional and I link it to my computer and Mapsource all the time. I've got the rig and the need for a radar/gps unit and am leaning toward Furuno to go with my 582L. I know you guys have beat this issue to death so where do I start looking? I'm very used to the setup in the Garmin and want something user friendly. I'd like to stay with the Mapsource or a similar program that makes uploading and downloading easy. Also, I need to have a course-up option cause that's the way I'm wired. Color would be nice and probably limited to a 4kw dome unit. Any suggestions?

Since it's always easy to spend someone else's money, if you have the room for it and really want to boost your refresh rate, look at the new Northstar 958. It is a superfast plotter with color radar option (4kw dome and also various open arrays) that makes the Furuno plotter function look totally pathetic.

If you didn't already have a 582L, I'd say get a Garmin 2006C or 2010C for a plotter and a Furuno 1833C radar with the blackbox sounder, which is functionally the same has a 582L but with a 10" screen. Then you'd have the best of all worlds.

Ouch, 6800 bucks buys me two new powerheads. Like to stay in the 3g range.

3g? Ok, Get yourself the Raymarine RL70CRC, 7" Color LCD Radar and chartplotter with the 18" 4k radom and a Raystar 120 WAAS GPS reciever.

Done. Turn overlay mode on, and overlay your radar ONTO the chart disply. Best thing since sliced bread.

EDIT: OOOOPS!!! Ok, a bit mopre than 3G because you have to add a Heading sensor (a few hundred bucks) to be able to use "Overlay mode". Well worth it though. Can you say Visa?
