Default Transducer Question. Upgrading system from Standard Horizon to Garmin

I currently have a 1kw airmar 260 Transducer. I am in the process of upgrading my Standard horizon unit to a Garmin 5212 with GSD22. Should I upgrade the ducer too? If so what are my options? Will the 260 I have work with the garmin?

Sorry for all the questions, I am a little new to the high end electronics.

Thanks

There really isn't much to upgrade to, a 260 is a fine transducer. You will need to contact Airmar to obtain an adapter plug to use the Standard with a Garmin.

Actually, you have no choice but to replace the ducer.

It's not because there is anything wrong with a 260, it's just that Garmin has a proprietary version of that ducer that will be required to work with the GSD22.

You current ducer will NOT work.

Garmin, in its infinite wisdom, made this decision for you. You can ask them why any time.
