order a new one from fruno they have the best customer service OR you could go to a fruno dealed and order a new one

i dont think its recomended to splice coaxial cable going to a chartplotter/gps

You do not have to go to a furuno dealer for the plug. go to your local electronics or two way radio shop, does not have to be marine. you could even get one at radio hack.

But first determine if the jack on the Furuno is a TNC or BNC type.

Nice eric, I could not remember, I am 99.9% sure it is a TNC though.

I believe it is the TNC type where there is a pin soldered onto the solid copper wire. Also, on mine, I think that the threads are on the inside of the connector.

you may be better off purchasing the end through furuno. i believe furuno uses a non-standard cable on that antenna. it wouldnt hurt to call tech support before wasting your time running around looking for a connector that probably isnt stocked anywhere.

Ah, good call Idiot. Yes, Furuno uses JIS cable (japanese industry standard). Look for markings on your antenna cable such as 5C-2V or 5D-2V. This is 50 ohm cable similar to rg58 and you can in fact substitute rg58 but you probably won't be able to intall a connector made for rg58 onto the 5C-2V/5D-2V as this cable has a jacket diameter of 7.4mm while rg58 is around 5mm.

Added: 5C is 75ohm, 5D is 50ohm (cable impedance)
