Default Cmap

I am running a Furuno 1650WF/NT plotter using the superwide CMap card (Maine to Cape Cod). When a couple miles outside of Wells Harbor, Me I was only able to zoom in to 2 NM. Yesterday on a friends boat in the same area using his Garmin with Blue Charts he was able to zoom into 20ft!

Are the garmin charts that much better in that you can zoom in much closer?

On my unit, you can set the zoom ranges on both the chartplotter and the radar. Go into setup and see if yours will do the same. Be sure you don't overzoom and exceed the chart's capabilities. On mine, I think about .58 miles is the most you can zoom . When overzoomed, the icon at the top turns black (on my 1722C)

Regards,

Barry

I'll checkout the setup menu. So the closest you can get is .5 miles? I guess the gramin is that much better then in that respect.

Thanks for the help.

I have an 1850 with the c-map NT. The range that you can zoom into depends on the scale of the charts that are available on the card. For example, I have a Bathymetric chart that I can zoom into 2 miles and still get "chart". Anything less than that and all I get is a blue plotter screen. On my superwide chip (Narragansett to Ocean City), it has the inshore charts and I can zoom into .5 miles and still get "chart". I can keep zooming after that, but it goes to the blue plotter screen after that.

If you have a chip that's more than a year old, you should consider getting a new chip. Joining the Captain's Club is the cheapest way to upgrade. I had a card that was 2 years old and finally got an update this spring and it had lots of new info (many new local tidal predictions) and quite a few new smaller scale charts.
