Default Northstar 8000i 15" touchscreen

I have used this product in the past, at least the 12" version, and it was wonderful. But the price was very high, around $8000. Now I'm seeing this GPS plotter in the $3000 range on special. I guess Navico does not want to keep promoting the Northstar brand and is selling it off. I'm in the market and temped to grab one. Sounds like a great deal?

Definitely sounds like a deal. I have the 6000i and love it. Could only imagine how much better the 8000i is with touch screen!

Sounds like a great price for a 3-legged thoroughbred.
$3K for a product that never took off, and as been discontinued by a company that no longer exists?
Think about it.

i kinda agree. If you NEVER have a problem in the future with it and it works great then you'll be happy and have had a good deal for the 3-7 years of use (average guestimated marine electronics lifespan). If it starts to have issues or dies all together anytime less than 2 years then it's money not well spent IMO as there will be no service, very limited parts, and no company to help you. If Northstar does go belly up or is discontinued what good is a warranty?

Northstar is a brand owned by Navico (Lowrance & Simrad) so there is no reason the company should not be around in the years to come.

I had an issue with my simrad autopilot over the summer. A tech at navico spent over one hour with me on the phone troubleshooting till we got it right. Several week back my northstar 6000i took a crap one month out of warranty and again they were great... sent it back and they are sending me a new unit.

Northstar = Over.
Once the stock of the Explorer series runs out, so does the name. RIP 95X series.
