Its not an inverted SI pic. I already posted how they do it. Have good T-giving!

Until someone is smart enough to focus on software processing to decouple motional errors from the image product, fluff like the "down imaging" will be the best you can expect as far as improvements go.

The challenge for these companies to technically compete with the real sidescan providers will be: 1) implementing motional error correction and image stabilization processing, and 2) increasing range and resolution for deep water performance. As far as cost competition, they've already won IMO. The bang for the buck of what either Lowrance or Humminbird offers is really impressive.
Agreed inlet...on the SI site and some other, there are posts on how to mount the HB SI ducer to a towfish.

This image should clear up the "myth" about the dead spot. To get similar images on both sides you have to have full coverage. This is the same tree above just driven directly over the top.

This image was captured by TMike thanks for allowing me to share.

We are experiencing very high traffic loads from the images and exceeding the bandwidths of the hosting account. Try refreshing to get image.

Hi All,

Where can I have the operating notes of the new system? I downloaded the user manual, but could not see it in.

Thanks

I down loaded the new version of Down imaging on to my unit today. I will be on the lake tomorrow hopefully to get some live shots. Here are a few snap shots that i took off of my units simulator.....amazing. I hope it works as good as the simulator.

I've always been impressed with the side imaging pictures. What the max depth you could expect in saltwater with the side imaging feature?

I've been comparing the Humminbird 998Si and the HDS8 and Side Scan for a while. Most of my fishing is fresh water but I go to the coast as often as I can and my fishing there is primarily inshore and bay systems with short range trips offshore, limited to about 10 miles off the beach on good days.
I see the Humminbird 998Si and the 998Si NVB systems for sale. The NVB has preloaded Navionics maps. Does anyone know what maps are preloaded? Is this a general load, maybe something like the Insight maps?
Pastaman, you seem to be in the know with Humminbird, do you know the answer? I've sent the question to Humminbird but have not received a reply yet.

I have seen good pictures up till about 150'. I beleive thats the reccomended max depth. I dont fish that deep so i havent tried. There are some deeper saltwater pics that i posted on one of the other pages showing wrecks, etc!!

Fwood,

You can get the units with the NVB (navionics bundle) preloaded. You can pick either NVB Hotmaps for freshwater lakes of just NVB wich shows the saltwater coastline, bays and tributaries. I dont have the NVB dowload. I use (1) freshwater hotmaps card and saltwater card of the east coast from navionics.

Just came in the house for a break, installing my new 998c SI right now. Those images are cool. Did you get any of the fish? Looks like you just about hit one with the jig. LOL

Pastaman,
You have a boat similar to mine (bay boat); I'm installing my 998c SI right now and wonder where the best place to mount the GPS puck might be. The readings for GPS Diagnostics are comparable wherever I move it on the boat. My console is full with a Garmin 545S and HB 998C SI side by side on the top shelf. I really would rather not mount it to the grab rail.
I'm thinking of the starboard aft corner, just right of the motor well. I have a swim step and ladder on the port aft corner.
Is your 997 internal GPS or external puck? Where did you mount yours if it is external and would you change that position if you had to do it again?
