Default radar cable from raydome

OK, this question has probably been asked at least a million times, but here it comes. Can the cable from a raydome ( ratheon RL 70 pathfinder radar) to the receiver (screen) be cut shorter, assuming a good splice can be made? Is the length of cable some how factored in to the system performance? My cable length is about 20' and all I probably need is 10' +/-. Any thoughts would be apprecaited. Thank You! (ya'll)

It's been asked before, and there is even an FAQ on RM's website I believe. I also believe the answer was a qualified "maybe", with several conditions that need to me met, including a minimum length.

You can splice the cables, and even use a terminal block (lots of blowboaters do that) to facilitate removal of a mast. You just have to follow the rulez.

Check RM's site for the answer.

This is one area where Garmin did something really smart. They don't use the 1 inch thick parralel cables that RM and others used to use. Garmin now just runs a power cable and a seperate CAT 5 Ethernet cable to the array. Both can be cut to any length needed for a clean, no fuss install.

10''? What are you mounting this on, a Jetski? If you do splice it you're better off using a BX-2 J Box rather than trying to use butt connectors to do the job, but something about how you're installing this just seems to be a bit backwards. Ten inches? I mean seriously.

Hardtop to overhead electronics box might be as short as 10 inches.

Had the same mess on my old boat, needed from hardtop straight down to top of dash, maybe 3-4 feet.

changing a radar cable length changes the sweep timing, the set will ne to be re tuned. there usually is a minimum length, check the manual.
if you do cut the cable use a junction box with a terminal strip and weatherproof cable glands, no butt splices.

You can chose to just ask a question directly as well.....
