Okay so I can plug the radar directly into the 4212!! I am having a custom radar arch made for this install was your point with the strut to keep the radar antenna above the GPS mushrooms?
Thanks

If I were you, I would consider the new NMEA2000 MercMonitor before vessel view. The new MercMonitor will provide all the vessel view info and more and you can display it all on your 4212..

Here is a bit of info on it in conjunction with the 4212. I am sure Glen will weigh in on this as well.

Might add a heading sensor.

Might also want to add a healthy dose of patience and a sedative or two. These units are not without the drama of frequent updates (usually with updates to fix the updates).

Which means you will need a way to write to SD cards. But in fairness, the hd24 radar has been a relatively stable device from an update perspective; mine has been flaky though.

A heading sensor will help with radar overlay and marpa. You may want the radar and mfd on seperate switches.

Good overall system, you will be happy with it.

Okay that brings another thought to mind, maybe a used NAVNET 1 with 4kw 24" Dome instead of the 24HD Garmin?

Stick with the Garmin.. Updates are a good thing! You never know what surprises and new features might be included.

I love my 4210 and have not had a SINGLE issue in the year that I have owned it. Not with it or my radar and all the other Garmin stuff that I have networked to it. The integration is seemless. I have AP, XM weather, GFS10 fuel sensors, GHI 10 display, VHF 200 etc. Adding stuff to the Garmin network is as easy as can be. The user interface is so simple you dont really need the manual.

The homeport software makes backing up as well as adding waypoints simple. Same with routes.

The card reader is a no brainer. Virtually any SD card reader will work.

I have applied every update that they have released over the last year and not enountered a single bug that effected anything that I would have noticed during my use. I actually look forward to the updates as it gives me a reason to go to my boat (in the driveway) when its not on the water. There have been many useful features added (via updates) that were complete surprises. Its nice to know that the manufacturer is on top of things and listening to its customers. The frequency of their updates shows it.
