These units are not designed to compete with the 4k and 5k series. They are intended for a more sophisticated bridge than most of us have on our fishing boats. These units will not be available via every mail order site in the world as most units are now. Garmins intends for them to be installed by qualified dealers, not just shipped out to anybody that wants one. The pricing is a major leap above the current 4K and 5K series. Here are the MAP Prices:
First the new F250 and now this. I have to go kick myself in the nuts.
Dont feel to bad basically it comes down to a better/faster video processor costing you an additional $1500 more. Also if you have the new radar these units will be able to take full advantage of them.
I guess I have to ask, what is the selling point with these? Faster graphics? More detail on the radar?
I don't get it. They don't even have a birdman edition.
So ok, it's for people who are so rich they don't know what they are buying in the first place. But those people don't buy Garmin, so what's the point?
And yes, I am being facetious, but really, what am I missing?

The one thing I did notice is they are slightly bigger than the comparable 4000/5000 series displays, which means at least on one of my boats, it will not be an option.

Ahhh sh__ttttt!!! You kidding me? Are you saying the 7215 will not drop into the space of the 5215? Please don't tell me that!!!
Jim,
I'll send you a "slightly used" 5215, plus $100 cash for a 7215!!
What format are the Furuno's charts on the "zero T" units?
They have both Raster (Scanned Actual NOAA Charts) and a basic vector set. Garmin, Navionics, C-Map MAX, are all vector charts, which are basically a digitized rendering of those NOAA charts because practically speaking, it's very difficult to find the storage space for all those raster charts ( the files are huge) and to redraw files with that much detail takes massive processing power, I'm talking multi-core CPU and a high performance GPU. That's why in the past most raster charting programs like Nobeltec, Coastal Explorer, etc, were related to PC based applications. Furuno basically just took a high end PC setup and marinized it to give it the ability to process these charts as fast as possible, giving people seeking an MFD with NOAA charts an actual product they can use.

Looks like the 5000 series did NOT change in size. Should mount in same hole. Same overall width, .1" difference in overall width (could be thicker plastic or something), and depth doesn't really matter.
7215 = 15.5"w x 11.8"h x 5.9"deep
5215 = 15.5"w x 11.7"h x 5.7"deep
JIM!! Where's my 7215 display?? I ONLY need the display!! I'll test it for Garmin!!
