Default Garmin 4xxx/5xxx Screenshots....

Some of you may already know this, but I found it accidentally. On my 4212, if I hold the "Home" key for about 8 seconds, the system will take a screenshot and write it to the SD chip in the unit.

Unfortunately that was my G2 Vision card, but it doesn't seem to have hurt anything this time.

But at least I can get screenshots now.......

HOLY SHA___TTTT!! Why the hell didn't they tell us??? It was documented in one of the previous updates that you had to have the Wireless remote to do it. MAny, how many hours have I spent snapping photo's, transferring them, resizing them, cropping them,..... uggh!!

Check this shot out! Yesterday, Bass fishing, drove right over a shcool of bass, so I turned around, went back over them (see the track on the pic), and sanpped this photo the 2nd time around. I anchored up about 50' in front of them, and caught a bunch of them. The biggest was a 38"er.

Yeah, it seems Garmin likes to hide easter eggs.

I've found a few "hidden" menus by holding down the menu key on various screens as well. Nothing jaw dropping, just dumb stuff mostly like the "demo mode".

I'm trying to find a diagnostics screen. There should be one somewhere.

Surf, make sure you have Screen Capture on in the config first.

To enter Diagnostics:
Home, Configure, system, Systems Information, then press and hold to the left of the "Return" button down on the bottom right side of screen. After a few seconds, ad new menu item will appear, "Diagnostics".

you press and hold the home button on the 4000 series. for the 5000 series you need to remote which has the home button on it.

So here's an idea!! Why don't you, errrr um, I mean Garmin add the damn save screen button thingy to the 5000 somewhere? Is there a top secret encoded subliminal message on the 5000 displays they don't want getting out?

Birdie, maybe they can't figure out how to keep from showing a finger in the screenshot?

I didn't realize you couldn't do it on the 5xxx. I assume nothing happens if you hold the screen button position for home (upper left in your screen photo)?
