Default Migrating WP's from machines using Homeport

What I thought was easy, now is somehow hard:

1.A friend brings me a bluechart card with his WP's burned on it from a 3010C.
2. I fire up HP and connect my USB bluechart reader and easily import the WP's into HP
3. I take a new SD that has been used and clean and burn the WP's to a new SD card using my SD card reader and HP
4. I put the card in his new 5212 and it will not move the WP's using info - data transfer - replace from card...

Ideas?

Did you leave anything on that card before you put his wp info on it? It might be seeing the s/n of a different plotter and not importing any data as a result.

I'd wipe the card, have his 4212 write something to it, then try the transfer from HP again.

Just a thought. They seem to be doing some odd copy protection schema on the 4xxx/5xxx series. Some stuff you can do, other stuff gets killed.

I would try that if you already haven't. If the waypoints were imported into HomePort OK, there's no reason they shouldn't be exported OK.

Try this: Have your friend create a couple waypoints on his new unit, then import them into HomePort. Delete them from the plotter and try to import them from HomePort/SD card. See if that works.

Then, import the waypoints from the old Garmin chip, export them to the SD card, and try importing them to the new plotter.

We can't blame Garmin for protecting their maps and charts, but waypoints are not "intellectual property", at least not theirs. Waypoints should be able to be moved back and forth and shared. Same as routes or tracks.

Also, make sure the 5212 has the latest Vers 5.4 of software on it. One of the updates listd in 5.4 says something about compatibilty with transferring data with the new Homeport software....
