1. check network cables, be sure ethernet plugs at the sounder, the port expander and the display are all solid.
2. check power to the sounder module. Is it on it's own circuit? check the breaker or inline fuse.
3. Check power to the port expander. are the lights flashing at the connections?
4. run an ethernet cable directly from the sounder to the display. (note, you cannot use a regular home computer ethernet cable-garmin network uses a crossover cable).
5. If none of that works, then you might have a dead sounder unit. Call Garmin.

Bouy Scout is on track---try his ideas first, BUT--

I would consider a sw update too. You would be suprised the weird issues that a new sw update can fix.....

resurrecting this one..

how can i confirm if the sounder unit (GSD21) is dead?

just if the LED indicator is blank?
or
can you test it with a multimeter like you would a faulty pump?

thanks

You cannot test the sounder module with a multi meter. If it has power, and you've connected it directly to your display with a different (garmin/crossover) cable, and your display otherwise works, then I'd suspect the sounder module. Call Garmin.

Look at the LED on the bottom of the GSD21. Flashing Green is OK, Flashing Red means there is a problem, No flash is No power or a bad GSD21.
