Default Fitting JL's for a custom look-install

Here’s a fairly simple but elegant install we just finished. Two 5212’s, along with the other stuff under the dash. Off to the side is the iPod holder as the CMD5 stays, and we will use the “aux in” for tunes
Still to do: the JL remote level and sub volume controls next to the remote on the bezel with labels.

The custom acrylic box we make for the ipod:

The helm speakers - running off the 600/4 - these speakers get twice the power of the bow and transom speakers. The subs are on their own 750/1 HD amp.

But the real trick on this install is the talent of our carpenter Chuck. He solved a big problem in mounting the speakers in the bow. A long ridge of glass in the side for design made mounting the speakers cockeyed if we wanted the big 7.7's. - Chuck was able to fabricate some custom rings of starboard in creme to match and they came out like this:

looks good.

one tip however. ditch the JL subwoofer bass knob. all it does is adjust the bass boost level, not the actual volume of the subwoofer. you are better off just using the non-fade volume control built into the clarion. bass boost just adds distortion.

I disagree...I know what it does....been using the bass knob on all my personal sub amps and it cuts a song down mixed wrong when I need it. And many like this one, the clarion (downstairs) is no where near the helm when you need it...

Very nice glen, on the Ipod holder, is the acrylic glued together? If it is, what type of glue is used? Is it attached to the helm with screws from the backside? tx

Glue is acrylic adhesive....
Melts the parts together
sometimes we use screws, sometimes glue

We've also started to do this at work - using the "showcase" model at contourcase.com -stuck on the dash with 3M dual lock - like super velcro but it snap locks on - nothing will fall off with this stuff - I hold a vhf in place on the ceiling of my t box with it.

Glenn
The last picture just above the mp3 player looks to be a switch. If so is it to switch 2 devices (mp3 and xm radio) to one aux input. If that is what it is for where can i find one at all i have found so far is for home use not marine use like this one.
Thanks

no.. it's a vestigial mp3 input jack that has since disappeared when I re-did the dash...
