Raytheon Autohelm 5000

Buying a boat with Autohelm 5000 autopilot. Have not heard to many good things about it.
Owners says it would hold course for about 30 seconds and then turn hard over to port. He said he had his electronics person look at it and he reprogrammed it and for two weeks it worked fine and now back to same issue. Think I should try to get it fixed or just junk it and buy a new one? i would not mind spending af ew bucks to fix it but if the reputation is that it was a bad unit I would just buy another and have it installed rather than throw my money away.

the AP technology has gone 10X since the autohelm 5000 - it's junk...get a Raymarine X10, A simrad AP 24 or a Garmin GHP10.

If this is a inboard boat, get the simrad...

I used one for years, no problems. I don't know about your specific issue, but I wouldn't automatically scrap it unless your jonesing for spending some bucks on a new one. I actually don't know what "reprogrammed" means. Never did that to mine.
