Default Help with Garmin Autopilot Install...

Well my two week install is about done with the exception of one connection.

I took the hoses loose from my helm of my 2003 Contender and they are not standard teleflex as the manual for the Garmin and the people at Contender told me. It's a SAE 45* flare fitting that I need to connect the T adapter from teleflex to. I have NO idea where to get this adapter. In fact, if no adapter is made I can even make a short jumper hose if I can find the right connections.

This is what came off of the helm:

This is what it needs to connect to:

Maybe you should ask the people you bought to auto from. That is usually my first contact and why its important to have a good dealer. Its hard to tell what the best solution is without knowing the rest of the system weather putting the T father down in the system or finding a new fitting for the back of your helm.

You may be able to take the fittings to a hydraulic shop and get a adapter or a cross over hose. The problem I found was that all the hydraulic shops did not have the seastar fittings.

I tried this, and they also didn't have the seastar fittings.

Bought it from Jim. I will call him tomorrow if I can't get it figured out. I imagine he is at the boat show.

I purchased my GHP 10 from Jim, but I got all my hoses custom made from Andy at Shipyard Island Marine. If Jim cant help, I am sure Andy can. He makes high quality hoses on site and can make them same day.

Those are common fittings you should be able to get at any home depot or menards in their brass fitting section
garmin uses a standard 3/8 compreshion fitting the other is a flair to pipe 90deg
allways use a little teflon tape on the pipe fitting ends of these fittingd especially where the pipe fitting goes onto the shadow drive solonoid and the pump
you are going to like the Garmin auto pilot!

Are you sure? I even went to a shop called "Connector Specialties" that sold nohting but various connectors and they said the thread was unlike anything they have even dealt with. Apparently teleflex has a special thread??

If you look carefully, one is a GPS heading and the other is the AP heading, which is compass based. The GPS heading will be COG, the AP is which way the boat is pointed.

They may read the same thing, or be way off. Especially if the boat isn't moving. The GPS needs several track points to average together for a heading.

Can you explain where that connector came from? Was it on the back of your steering pump or someplace else?

It looks like one end is a compression fitting for solid copper pipe. Where does the other end screw into?

wooly2 is on the money. parker should have all you need . You need to check rated pressure of your fittings so stay with hydraulic shops. Also as glen said NEVER use thread tape. Use thread sealant(loktite 567 is good) but then ONLY on the male thread. This stops it being forced into the gizzards of your ap

You're looking too hard. Look in the brass fittings dept. at your local hardware store. 3/8" compression fittings is all they are and steering is not high pressure by hydraulic standards

sea star is 9/16 fine thread with an o ring seal on the inside. Andy has them and I am sure Jim will to. They are not standard by any means.

take your stuff over to (forget the name of the place) but they're on airline hwy right by friendly yamaha, next door to the dewalt repair place...on the service road. They are a hydraulic fitting/ hose etc supplier. I' bet they have what you need and if they don't, they can make it / order it. They came thru on my contender for power trim on the log splitter trim on my XS's. They also came thru on the hoses for the hydraulic jack plate on my flatscat. I'll see if I can't find their name tomorrow.
