Intermittent anchor/steaming light-suggestions?

Took my combo masthead/anchor light off, into the shop and upon disassembly discovered that one of the wires had corroded through and come loose from the plug end inside the tube. This light was installed by the broker's marina yard where I bought the boat 2 years ago--must not have been new, though it looks pretty new. Have ordered a new pole and windshield mounted socket. Tested the LED festoon lamps on a 12 volt battery (my garden tractor's battery...). they appear to be brighter than the incandescents, and much whiter. I got out my spare pole, swapped the old yellow lenses for the clear ones on the disassembled pole, and installed the LED lamps. Polarity matters here. This pole suffers from the same loose fit in the socket's pins. Upon closer inspection, looks like the little pin sockets have a spring loaded contact at the bottom of the hole. I installed some metallic spacers (OK, small pieces of tinned wire) into each socket to take up the slop. Installed the spare pole and experienced joy as the lights worked. Very bright and visible from all directions. Once the new mast and mount arrive, I'll change it out.

This is a good place to use dielectric grease. And if there's no cover, find a way to cover or plug the socket when the light is not installed.
