Default 5212 power receptacle pin out

I have my Garmin 5212 at home and want to run it but I don't have the power cable which is on the boat. I have plug pins that will work but I don't know which pin is +12 and which is negative. I can't find the info in the manuals. Also, is the 5212 protected against reverse polarity in case I screw up? Thanks.

Default Do yourself a favor ......

Just order a spare power cable and be done with it.

I am not totally sure , but if you have a Meter you may set it to check continuity.
If you touch the shield or case or anything that is ground on the unit with one prob and with the other prob touch one of the pins if it reads a short you found this to be the negative and the other pin to be the positive.

Well, you could check the polarity of the original plug on the boat, but since you're dealing with a $3K+ piece of equipment, I agree with bluewaterpirate, be safe and just buy the cable. You'll feel pretty silly if you burn up the plotter by hooking it up backwards.

Garmin wants $35 for that cable. Jim@BOE is only charging $25 for the same cable....

I was meaning to order one anyway, but hadn't gotten around to doing it yet. Done now.

Thanks everyone, that is certainly safe advice. I just wanted to download the charts to test my new Homeport software. This unit is actually going back to Garmin for service/replacement. When the display brightness runs in max, it gets extremely hot and locks up within an hour or so, but that's another story.

Yep, get an extra power cable. I spent hours in front of my 5215 in the living room last winter learnign it, INSTEAD of watching all the CRAP on the 1000 channels of TV reality garbage. Time well spent.
