I will be installing it today. My GSD22 works fine already.

What I would like to see is the ability to move (or remove) buttons (on the 5XXX) series to "customize" the menus. My video camera has this feature.

Default There is a new software update

for the GDS 22 embedded in this update v.2.9. Look in the data above the chart updates. Changes and improvements to hardware are not listed like the MFD.

The GSD updates are kind of thin:

Change History

Changes made from version 2.80 to 2.90:

  • Corrected issue where user settings would not save at power down.
  • Improved shallow water depth tracking.

That doesn't sound like the "Birdman" release to me. Shallow water depth tracking was never really an issue for me, but it's good to hear it will improve.

What about image resolution and bottom fish discrimination? Are they just being frugal in the description?

Default Garmin sometimes doesn't post every new feature ....

Best thing to do is go out load it in and see what's actually there -vs- what's posted on their website. Ya know ... kind of like Christmas.

I just updated my 545 to v 5.2 and there are some features that were not posted on their website.

By the way ...... the update that is posted on the website is NOT the one Birdman spoke to. There is another one out there specific to the GDS 22.

Default These features are common between the

400/500/4000/5000 units. These were added by the new software updates V 5.2 (400/500 units) & V 5.4 (4000/5000 units).

Video .....

Note: The dynamic weather displays are one of the new features that was not posted on the Garmin update listing. Christmas .....

Tom, thanks for the info. They have been nondescript before. But it will be interesting to see what they come out with this winter. My boat is being pulled on Monday so it's all academic for me until spring.

Spent a few minutes with some Olathe people today and gleaned a tidbit from them:

All of the engine features avail in the GMI will migrate to the the plotters - you will be able to configure your engine displays.

Is this "specific to the GSD22" update available to us plain folk or is it still a Beta version available only to privileged

I would love to see my GSD22 become a quality Fish Finder

Thanks

Default Beta ......

Garmins working hard on their FF technology ..... they realize they're playing catch up. Like many vendors ...... Garmin uses some folks to field test early releases of software and equipment. No need to get nuts over this beta version. When it's ready it will be released. No big deal.

I spent over five hours on my boat today testing the new V 5.2 software release for the 400/500 series. You can test all you want to in lab but until you can get it on a boat it don't mean a hill of beans.

agreed - I have been told nore than once that the performance of a FCV1150 Furuno and a B260 thru hull is pretty much the target they are shooting for. There is not much better than that.....

Would this be accomplished with new hardware or an exsisting GSD22.

That would be just awesome to have a high end fish finder from Garmin

Default There is a lot

they can do with the GDS 22 when it comes to software and firmware updates. Their hardware and software folks are working hard to make this happen. There is some new stuff coming not sure when.
