Being a software consultant I tend to have a Bad *** computer system, Homeport is awfully clunky on my machine.
I don't have any charts or way points installed either.
Can I get my money back?
Update:
I just closed everything, tried MapSource it works great. Then went and tried Home Port, still clunky and very unresponsive...I'm very unhappy :-(
That goes to prove you can't please everybody!
It seems fine on my middle of the road two or three year old Dell laptop running Windows XP. I did have to download a Microsoft program before Homeport would install.
I haven't tried it on my newer desktop yet. Still Windows XP.
I have the same question as SeaRayLady, I downloaded the built in maps on my 545s to a SD card. Do I always have to have the card inserted into the computer to get my maps or is there a way to import them? Also do I need to use my G2 Vision card instead of the other card with my downloaded maps. Takes me a while to catch on to new programs!
To me this is one of the best features of both MS and Homeport. After a days fishing you can download your track data from your unit to an SD card a upload into either program. Your track history points contain (nav data/course & speed info/depth info/water temp info/leg info/date & time info.
The value of this is you can reconstuct your days fishing using this feature if you've added new waypoints they will show up in the track history data.
This info can be displayed in MS & Homeport by click on the Edit Menu .. when it drops down select Properties and you will see the following displays.
Note: If you're not using a Garmin GDS 22 or a Garmin 400/500 series you can connect your other manufacturers FF via NMEA 0183 and pass the same date. In my case I've got my Furuno 620 feeding NMEA data to both my Garmin 2206 and 545.
Graphical Display .... new to Homeport
You can display individual track histor points or waypoints that were entered during the days fishing trip. the selected track history point is denoted by a red dot.
You can point and slide along the graphical display to show data. It is denoted by a blue arrow on the chart.

I upload and study my tracks all the time. If I want to know what time I was in a particular area, how deep it was, water temp, speed, heading, it is all there.
OK - I apoligize in advance for what may be a "dumb" question. Is there any way to add waypoints in Homeport without clicking on a spot on the chart and then going into the properties of that waypoint and making modifications? In other words, the old Mapsource software allowed me to add directly on the properties screen when I wanted to add a new waypoint???
Please let me know if anyone else has issues running the HP, it works fine on my cheap laptop, only 1280 x 800 Where as my desktop is dual monitors 1680x1050..it has a very fast graphics card. But is almost totally unresponsive.
Thanks,

Not that I have found. I just click a random spot and them modify the GPS coordinates. Of course, this is the same thing I have to do in my Garmin 5212, so maybe there is a reason for this?

Thanks, Miss Trial. I have the 4212 and also thought (since the 5.3 software update) that you had to randomly click a spot and then modify properties to add a waypoint on the unit.....found a way to access this manually using "user data" and a couple of steps to manually input waypoints to the 4212. I can get the exact progression when I go down to the boat tomorrow if you want.
On the Homeport software, I guess it must be done it as you describe...
I'm running it on two systems laptop and desktop .... runs great on both. My desktop is high end ..... 8 gigs ram, top of the line grahics card, dual monitor with 5 tb's of hard drive space. It zips right on with no issue. Have you gone in and selected the setup menus to add to the displays and functions?
You don't have to be anywhere near the spot you want to insert your new waypoint when you click on the mouse arrow. After entering the way point nay where on the screen just go to the properties screen and highlight the current lat/long and change it to the correct location. While there you can add notes, change the symbol, etc.
