They are both good. I personally like Raymarine's stuff better. Exactly what are you looking to buy? Chartplotter, radar, combo unit....? How much do you want/have to spend?

sorry for my ignorance. my name is Gary by the way. I am looking for radar/chartplotter in one, fishfinder color ,stand alone gps. Not crazy about putting all in one in case of failure . Had raytheon on my bertram radar/chartplotter ,l470 ff,and all worked well.but never fished for tuna or in 1000 + feet of water either as for theff anyway.and I intend to spend around 5000.00 or so.thanks for your input.

Not sure I understand ya? A GPS is the same as Chartplotter.

Sounds like you are looking for a GPS Chartplotter and Radar combo unit, and a standalone color fishfinder for $5k, is that correct?

If so, I'd get a Raymarine 7" Color LCD chartplotter and radar unit (model RL70CRC) with a 4kw radom. This will allow you to overlay radar data onto the chartplotter. Then, get the new DSM250 digital sounder module and a second 7" LCD screen for the FF. That would be one hell of a system and cost less than $5k complete.

Good luck.

As much as I like Furuno, for your budget, you may want to consider Raymarine. By all means get at least 1 color display, this way when you are running you can have the radar/GPS/chartplotter up and the depth on the B/W. When you are fishing, you can swap them and look at a color fishfinder and put the radar/GPS/CP on the BW. The furuno will probably run about $500-$700 more for roughly the same setup, but you can get a 1KW ducer.

yes what i was looking for is radar/chart one unit, in raymarine would be raynav 300 or 320 another unit, and a color ff , plus icom m502 vhf .so i would have 4 units all together.however i do like the raymarine set up with 2 units ,just for the ability to switch the screen layouts .in rough conditions i could put full screen radar on 1 unit and full screen chart on the other.I will look into raymarine a little closer .thanks for your input.O ya by the way nice LOOKING boat Birdman.

Why do you want a raynav 300 or 320. It is just a repeater not a seperate unit (redundancy) Just pick up a handheld if you want redundancy.

raynav300/320 are stand alone gps receivers.but it looks like im going with furuno and i will get either the gp32 or gp37 also stand alones.that way if i want to work off lat/long i can.and also have it for a back up in case the chartplotter/radar quits.

I got the Raymarine 70CRC all-in-one package. It came w/ the 7" color screen, GPS antenna, DSM250 sounder and VHF radio. Ran about $2850 at West Marine...(they ordered it special from Raymarine for me because they only carried the package deal w/ the GPS repeater unit which is redundant) But I carry a handheld GPS and VHF just incase all my electronics go out. I added a Hi-perf thru-hull transducer.

I just got an EMAIL from PowerBoats Report, some of these very same issues will be discussed in the next issue of PBR. They will be discussing the Furuno and Raymarine products.

Furuno has an easier user interface. Raymarine has sharper color screens. I bought the Furuno and love it.

I just got my Raytheon L760 back from being upgraded which makes it a Raymarine 770 now plus I put in a DSM 250 sounder and I can't believe the difference, I was shocked at the difference. If you've ever seen a hdtv, picture that in a fishfinder. If you can somehow see the Raymarine with the HD you will not want anything else.

Your right, since Whalers are generally accepted by fisherman as one of the best hulls made, they assume they should rig them with the best of electronics.
