I bought (4) JL Audio M770-CCX-CG-WH Marine 7.7" 2-Way Coaxial speakers about 6 months ago and (2) are now blown. They were bought from a company off ebay and I doubt that I'm going to have any luck in them helping to replace them.
Have any of you guys had luck in sending speakers back to JL for them to repair or replace? Do you think that they would cover these under warranty? I have none of the original boxes or paperwork. I’d appreciate any advice… Thanks
they won't touch a purchase off ebay...I keep telling you guys - BOE or somewhere AUTHORIZED...if they are listed on the JL site, they are authorized......
I avoid E-Bay for this type of stuff, it almost never is worth the savings when you have a problem.
Before I knew any better, I purchased a raymarine radar on E-Bay. I turned out to be a demo from west marine and was blown. Luckily Raymarine replaced it with a new one, but it was a close call and almost a huge loss.
Assuming that you bought real JL's in the first place, I'm suprised you blew them. JL will do nothing for you, and rightfully so, because 90% of that JL stuff on e-bay is chinese counterfeit.
Suck it up and buy replacement speakers.
infinity kappa's powered by a clean amp at their rated RMS... i've never blown them. Had probably 6 or so pairs I've done this with at this point. All but the first set (crutchfield) were ebay or questionable dealers
blown speakers technically arent usually covered under warranty. when you blow a speaker, it is because you abused them or they werent installed properly. JL wont help you anyways, since you didnt buy them through the proper channels.
call me a jerk, but i love when this happens to cheap people trying to save a buck.

As the others have said, I think you are on your own on this one. Ebay can be a risk for things that would otherwise have a warranty.
That said, are you sure the speakers are "blown"? Do they have a fuzzy or rattling sound?
No sound at all? Are you sure it's the speakers, not your system or the wiring?
If you had two at once blow, you have something else wrong. Find out why they blew cause if you don't, it don't matter who you get them from there going to blow again. Glen is right , you do have choices when you buy from someone that will back you but replacing them twice a year is not going to last long either. i"m way over powered but I don't use all the watts I have. Is your amp over rated for the system or were you running them in 2 instead of 4 ohm. You have more problems than just the speakers there with that happening.

Also curious what exactly happened to the speakers... and I too bought mine off ebay - you just have to weigh the $ savings vs the potential warranty headaches.
If I recall correctly the JL warranty is only a year, and when I considered all of the potential bad things that could happen to the speakers that WOULDN'T be covered by warranty during that year... AT THE TIME I saved ~$100 by intentionally buying without a warranty. (although BOE's prices look pretty good today - don't think they were selling JL when I bought)
Edit: Glen, I agree completely - if you're talking about $20-40 difference... by all means...
Do the math here...the JL site is running great deals with great discounts for most equipment, so dealers do about the same. It's not like the auth dealers are trying to hold you up for huge money and the web is that much cheaper....the extra ten or 20 bucks is worth the insurance for a good experience...

This is a little exagerated. Unless you are buying purses, there isn't a whole lot of conterfeit on ebay. Through the last few years, I have purchased JL speakers and amps for 4 cars and two boats on ebay and have a factory warranty and have never had problems. I also bought my cars, TVs, boats, marine electronics, and anything else you can think of from ebay. Most of the sellers have real stores like BOE but use ebay as another source to sell their products. I have only had one amp problem and sent it back to the seller, who sent me a new one.
Plus, you can get very cheap warranties from squaretrade that cover the cost of repairs or replacement on most electronics.
I will admit this, if you buy used electronics on ebay they have a good chance of already being ruined or being stolen. You just need to learn to wade through the bad to get to the good.
Now, the original problem here has nothing to do with where the speakers were bought, just that JL will not warrant blown speakers that they will saw were overpowered.
I bought Polk speakers on line from what looked like a legit seller, turned out they were selling me refirbs. The set they sent me did not have grills, and I could tell they were not new. I ended up ordering from Crutchfield to get new speakers and the right grills.
