Default JL audio m770 speakers

I purchased a set of these speakers brand new on ebay to replace my old pioneers and was hoping to use the same pre-drilled cut outs. I come to realize after I purchased them that they are the component ones and not the ones with the tweeter built in. Can I just ditch the component/tweeter aspect of the speaker set and just use the larger speaker? Or is it a necessary aspect of the speaker and not just an add on component? I dont know what to do
Thanks

my buddy did that and uses them as kind of a sub. The tweeter is going to make all the difference when youre running. Do like Glenn did and put the tweeter up on the dash so when youre running you get nice clean sound in your face. Some people get the speakers like you did and mount tweeters in different spots. But most people are getting them all in one now. No big deal just preference. If you wanted to use the predrilled holes you needed to get the mx650.

So Im guessing the tweeters are an essential aspect to that component speaker setup and not just add on speakers that I can eliminate?? I really hate drilling extra holes if I dont have to...

no they are needed and not an add on....do your self a favor - mount the big speakers without the tweeter...then add the tweeter and just stick it on the fiberglass with a bit of duct tape...and you don't have to drill holes - the tweeters will surface mount - read the manual....

you tell us what oyu think

You probably have room for the tweeters, and unlike the woofers, you should be able to buy a regular hole saw (drill bit) at home depot that will make a perfect hole to mount them in. Just a little more work to do it right so go for it.

Mount the tweeters as reasonably close to the woofer as you can, IE if you drew an imaginary square around the woofer, put the tweeter at one of the corners of the square.

I replaced my existing speakers with the JL's by making a starboard pie and installing over the existing holes. You will love the sound with the tweeters. See the photo's in this THT thread;
