Default Apelco XCD250 Fishfinder

Just wondering if there is anybody out there that knows anything about this particular unit or one like it. I just recently bought a new to me used boat and the temperature and speed work fine on the unit but as far as depth finding and fish finding it just doesnt work. I downloaded an owners manual from Raymarine and did everything in it it told me to as far as setting it up but never works. Even went through all the trouble shooting guidelines and wats to change it and I am giving up on trying to make it work for me. It just shows Error on it and defaults to saying the depth is 5 feet regradless where I go. Anybody know anything, tricks, or should I try to find a replacement transducer or scrap the thing and start fresh? Any help or feedback is greatly appreciated.
