Overview, I just installed my raymarine system, 2 e-80s, 4kw open array, Raystar 125 GPS antennae, and a seatalk network box......New to raymarine so forgive any ingnorance, The icons in the top right shows an x over the gps and says no fix, connection is via NMEA wire, I noticed 1 difference between the pigtail and the wire from the Raystar, the difference was 1 wire on the pigtail side was a different color but all the rest matched up so I figured it should have been fine...did i figure wrong?? Radar powers up and works fine, Not sure where to go from here any guidance, inputs or suggestions would be appreciated, hopefully The Hull Truth can save me some coin or else I'm gonna have to take it to the man and have him diagnose and fix it, I need to save the money so that I can get my DSM 300 and thru-hull transducer, system is pretty much inadequate without the fishfinder function, and then there's an auto-pilot. If you wanna give some tips to a RayMarine newbie fire away.....I'll try to attach some pics of the install....I forgot to get some pics of the wiring but I went with function over form, not yellowfin quality but it's run well and secured so not to beat and bang around....
Thanks

the install looks nice, unfortunatly the rs125 does not wire color for color to a E-system. there is a manual that came with the 125 that explains the wiring.

If you wire via NMEA 0813, ditch the scotch-lock connectors. I had bad luck with those actually cutting the wire when crimping them. Use a small marine rated electronics bus bar or if you have money to burn and NMEA multiplexer. I have heard of people using the connectors that Low Volt Electricians use but no nothing about the reliability for saltwater environment.
I would advise you to take your raymarine unit back to dealer and if he offers you 10cents on the dollar , TAKE IT.
I have an 18 month old Century 2400, it came with raymrine e-80. total piece of garbage. ----------------- I have a gigantic thru hull transducer,,, it has never worked right and I recently bought a Furuno to mount beside it,,,
On a brand new unit, I spent over $1,000 ( still under warranty) and have had 3 different experts work on it. --------- its a joke,,,,, to put it bluntly, you got taken.

First let me welcome you to the site.
Second, not a good idea to "bash" a product, especially on your first post. I was given some advice one time from an "old timer" as "do not let bad experiences skew your judgement of the world, learn from those bad experiences and move on." Best advice I ever received as I apply it on a daily basis.
I am not saying that it's not OK to have a negative opinion, just leave out the descriptive adjectives and just list the things you do not like about what you have verses the things you like about the competitors products, again leaving out the descriptive adjectives. The Manufactures Products we may dislike today sometimes turnout to be the products we want in the future. Look back thru the archives and see for yourself.
Trust me as I have been thru some embarrassment myself.
Regards,
THIP
PS. Your boat is nicely set up Flying Circus, looks like things are coming along very well. I have been following your progress and looks pretty cool from our end. Great Job. Keep us up to date.

If you honestly think that Raymarine is that bad Mr. Mattmuth, than you don't know what you are doing. If it doesn't work, it isn't the unit. Chances are that it is you.
I got it all sorted out thanks to Elusive, it was a bit of a challenge as I'm colorblind and red, brown, and green pretty much looked the same but a lil assistance from my wife and we got it working,

If you spent a thousand bux on a brand new E-80 it must have been a back of the truck special, only dropped once, if you hate your gigantic thru hull transducer get a different one, This site has provided me with a wealth of knowledge and helped to allow me to make informed decisions, opinions vary and I'll take yours under advisement but maybe you should have researched what you wanted a little more and you wouldn't be on here complaining about what sux on your boat, I've had Furuno and agree it is top notch, this is my first experience with Raymarine but so far I'm pleased, still trying to figure it all out but it's coming along, and to HatIslandPirate....Thanks for the kind words....

I would re-due the connections from the 125 and use SeaTalk, it works better on the 125. One thing you should do to help the SeaTalk Network is to provide another +12VDC to the red wire, this will keep your network stable. Once hooked up via SeaTalk you can use the status LED on the 125 to help if there are any problems.

Thanks for the info, The way you mentioned is the way I did it, what size fuse should be on the 12+ supplying power to the seatalk wires?? 1amp??
Thanks
Monty
THe advantage of seatalk over NMEA is that seatalk is bi directional which means that data will go in either direction as opposed to in NMEA where you have to have 2 separate sets of connections to do the same thing.

Kingair,
What type of distribution block did you go with for your Seatalk and NMEA connections?
Manufacturer and part number would be great........ Right now mine is just spliced but I don't like it, I think the 5 amp fuse is perfect for the application and want to upgrade to something similar to what you have, I think this will also work for NMEA connections for DSC on my vhf?? Am I correct in thinking this?? I'm getting ready to order my DSM 300 and Transducer from BOE so I might as well lump it all into one order.....
Thanks
