Radar Question - The Hull Truth

I have a new Garmin 18 HD Dome Radar. This is my first radar unit and like it so far, but have allot to learn. Today I saw the rain come to me on the radar and across the water. The screen was completely that yellowish color all around the boat.

In a rain squall, how do you adjust so you can see other boats, buoys ect in a really heavy downfall? Thanks, I had my unit on automtic gain.

Adjust the FTC setting to filter out clutter caused by rain

and the STC to do the same with sea clutter

Yep, adjust FTC till most of the "yellow" goes away, NOT all of it. If you get rid of all of it, you will also get rid of some of the real returns (other boats).
