Default Gamin 185 Won't Turn On

Saturday my old Garmin 185 wouldn't turn on. I get the welcome screen which is displayed during its self-test then it goes off. Did that all day. Managed to find the maintenance mode key combo (power+enter) but that didn't help, though that stayed on.

Any ideas?

Thank.

There's a slight chance your voltage is low for some reason, but the most likely solution is ask Garmin if they have a reman. The last update to the firmware was ver 4.04/4.05 dated 2001, a LONG time ago. Your charts are even older, and really not a good thing to rely on.

If Garmin can do something for you for less than $300, do it, but this just might be a good time to look at what's new. There are discounted prices on the 440S.

If the 440 is big enough for you to see from your seat, get one that includes XM weather. You might find it (the Garmin 440SX) for $500 plus transducer (yes your existing transducer might work, but....)

XM weather is a VERY, VERY good thing to have on a boat without radar, and only a VERY good thing to have on a boat with radar. You can suspend the subscription fee in the off season.
